IMU-CET Eligibility Criteria (Height, Age, Medical Fitness)
IMU-CET eligibility criteria are mandatory for students aiming for a career in the Merchant Navy through Indian Maritime University (IMU). Candidates must meet specific IMU-CET height requirements, age limits, eyesight standards, and medical fitness norms as prescribed by IMU and DG Shipping.
IMU-CET Age Limit
- Minimum age: 17 years at the time of admission
- Maximum age:
- 25 years for General category
- 30 years for SC/ST candidates
- Age is calculated as per the IMU-CET admission year guidelines
📌 Age relaxation applies only where officially notified by IMU.
IMU-CET Height Requirements (Male & Female)
Minimum Height Criteria
For Male Candidates
- Minimum height: 157 cm
- Minimum chest expansion: 5 cm
For Female Candidates
- Minimum height: 152 cm
- Proportional chest expansion as per DG Shipping norms
📍 Height requirements may slightly vary for specific Merchant Navy courses like Marine Engineering or Nautical Science.
IMU-CET Height Relaxation
- Candidates from hill areas or tribal regions may get a height relaxation of up to 5 cm
- Valid domicile proof is mandatory for claiming relaxation
IMU-CET Eyesight & Vision Requirements
- Distance Vision:
- 6/6 in better eye
- 6/9 in worse eye
- Color Vision:
- CP-I mandatory (Color Perception Type-1)
- Spectacles:
- Power generally allowed up to ±2.5
- No night blindness
🚫 LASIK / eye surgery rules depend on course & current DG Shipping guidelines.
IMU-CET Medical Fitness Requirements
Candidates must be medically fit as per DG Shipping medical standards, including:
- Normal hearing ability
- No speech defects
- No chronic diseases (asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, etc.)
- Healthy heart, lungs, kidneys, and nervous system
- Physically fit for sea service
Medical fitness certificate must be issued by DG Shipping–approved doctors only.
IMU-CET Eligibility for Girls
- Same academic, age, eyesight, and medical requirements
- Separate height norms apply (152 cm minimum)
- Girls are eligible for Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, and other Merchant Navy courses
